It’s officially the party season, and the season to drink and be merry, so when the invitation arrived for this year’s Starry Lunch – in aid of children’s charity Once Upon a Smile, I was delighted to attend. I hold this charity quite close to my heart after working and raising money for them over the past 4 years. My partner Paul is also the Chairman of the charity so it was a great excuse for us to leave the baby at home and head out for an afternoon of entertainment, dining and raising money for a great cause.
The champagne reception started at 11am…yes 11am in the morning! Guests arrived wearing festive dresses and black tie suits. I wore an alpine green jumper dress, accessorised with over the knee boots and a YSL clutch bag. It was great to catch up with some of my friends and see some familiar faces, actor Will Mellor, reality TV star and charity patron Leanne Brown from The Real Housewives of Cheshire, and of course my great friend and compere for the day, Emmerdale’s Danny Miller.
As we took our seats, Danny opened up the event with a fantastic speech about the charity, and some teary tragic cases, there wasn’t a dry eye in the house. Danny then introduced the event organiser and charity patron, the stunning Suzy Page who strutted down the catwalk in her Louboutin’s to give her thanks to everyone attending.
Dinner was served whilst we happily bidded for some items in the auction. I decided to skip the starter to save myself for the banoffe pie dessert instead. I’m only a two course kind of girl. Some call it a cheap date, I call it saving calories for the Laurent Perrier Rose champagne!
Once our bellies were full and our glasses were fully topped up, we were announced as the winners of the higher bidders for a personal chef to cook at your home for 6 guests (my choice!) and a pair of signed boxing gloves by Anthony Joshua (the Misters choice!) It was a win win all round and we managed to donate £1,300 personally for the charity!
Danny and Suzy organised a very fun filled raffle, while Will Mellor sang a few old classics on stage. To conclude the show fashion designer and my fabulous friend Vicky Martin showcased a fashion show of festive winter warmers…playsuits, sequinned dresses and fur coats.
Post event it was time to head into town and grab some more food….but this time it needed to be dirty food after copious amounts of champagne! We headed to Reds True Barbeque for burgers, sweet potato friends and beef jerky. Once our food comas hit us hard, it was time to call it a night and head home.
The event was a great success and raised a total of £20,00! A great day, with great friends, raising money for a great cause.
The next day, we all got together again to hit the Christmas markets with Suzy and a few friends. We drank hot mugs of mulled, ate pancakes, waffles and bought a few little festive gifts to take home.
It finally feels like Christmas…those extra pounds are starting to creep on!!
